Thanks, Mr. Walker. We’re Much More Gooder with Smartness Now.

Pink Floyd Classroom

The song says, “We don’t need no education.”

That’s a relief, because we ain’t gettin’ it.

Representative Bob Walker’s consultants and paid bloggers talk about his opponent Joey Millwood’s “country club plan,” but they still fail to explain why the chair of the House Education Committee remains committed to a system that consistently places our state’s students at the bottom of the list.

Actually, it’s not always bad news. South Carolina doesn’t always rank at the bottom.

I misspoke, so I guess it’s good we’re checking for the truth. Isn’t it?

In fact, South Carolina received some good education news just today. We are no longer last in high school graduation rates. We now have the 4th lowest graduation rates in the nation. Instead of fewer than 5 in 10 high school students graduating in four years, now fewer than 6 in 10 graduate in four years.

Aim high, South Carolina.

Representative Walker remains closed to a number of ideas that may or may not improve the state’s educational system.

At the same time, his challenger’s openness may be a departure from the norm. If the norm isn’t working, is something new necessarily a bad thing? No.

That’s the truth.
